Liverpool have agreed a massive contract with Hugo Ekitike as they aim to fast-track a move to sign the French forward instead of Alexander Isak.

While it didn’t last that long, the dream of signing Alexander Isak this summer appears to be dead in the water and instead, Liverpool are acting very quickly to sign no.1 Newcastle United transfer target Ekitike.

The Reds told Newcastle that they wanted Isak and that if the Magpies were unwilling to sell, they would move on and sign Ekitike instead.

The 23-year-old scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists last season and now seems set to make a big money move to the Premier League.

Liverpool submit bid to Frankfurt and agree contract with Ekitike

Liverpool were not bluffing to Newcastle as reports today confirm with the Premier League champions locked in advanced talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over a huge deal to sign Hugo Ekitike.

According to Fabrizio Romano, they have already submitted a bid although Liverpool will have to increase their offer.

He reports on Twitter: “Liverpool have submitted official bid to Eintracht for Hugo Ekitike! Eintracht already informed Liverpool that they want more, proposal rejected but it was initial contact as talks continue.

“Ekitike said ??? Liverpool, no issues on personal terms. He wants Liverpool FC.”

Furthermore, Ekitike appears to have already agreed personal terms with the Reds on a six-year deal.

According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins: “Hugo Ekitike and Liverpool reached an agreement over 6 year contract.

“The player only wants Liverpool.

“In the last 24h he has rejected Manchester United. Newcastle have already left talks. Negotiation ongoing between Frankfurt and Liverpool.”

Liverpool accept Isak defeat – ready for Ekitike signing

Liverpool have seemingly accepted defeat to Newcastle in the race to sign Alexander Isak but in Ekitike, they have a very similar if unrefined version of the Newcastle star.

Two years younger, Ekitike resembles Isak in many areas which is why it’s no surprise that both Liverpool and Newcastle wanted him this summer.

Liverpool will have to cough up as much as €10om (£87m) for Ekitike so it’s by no means a bargain alternative. Yet, with a six-year contract in place, Liverpool clearly rate Ekitike very highly.

If he can translate his Bundesliga form from last season to the Premier League, Arne Slot will have an incredible attacking lineup.
