The summer transfer window shuts one week today and the future of Alexander Isak remains the biggest remaining talking point. Isak maintains his time at St James’ Park is up but Newcastle don’t want to sell, and rivals Liverpool – who could yet pounce with a mega-money move – visit the north east on Monday night.

 

Isak sat out the Magpies’ league opener and isn’t expected to play tonight. Even so, a hostile atmosphere could be on the cards under the lights.

 

Dropped points over the weekend could force Manchester United and Manchester City back into the market. For United, goalkeeper Senne Lammens could be the next to arrive, while we might also see some more sales.

 

Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho are still at Old Trafford at the time of writing, though Chelsea remain admirers of Garnacho. They’re also after RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, while striker Nicolas Jackson could well leave Stamford Bridge in the next week.

 

One of the summer’s other big sagas has been resolved, with Eberechi Eze’s Arsenal move was confirmed. The deal could see rivals Spurs return to the market after missing out, though – despite their strong start to the season.

Arsenal could hijack Spurs’ Hincapie move

Arsenal are ready to rival Tottenham for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie just days after beating their rivals to Eberechi Eze, according to The Athletic.

 

Spurs have already made an approach over the Ecuadorian defender, who has a £52m release clause.

 

The report indicates Arsenal would need to make sales before getting a deal done, and Jakub Kiwior and Oleksandr Zinchenko are among those to have already been linked with a summer exit.

 

 

 

Napoli closing in on Hojlund

Napoli have moved closer to a deal for Rasmus Hojlund, with Scott McTominay playing a part.

 

According to Corriere dello Sport, McTominay has spoken with his former Manchester United colleague to discuss a potential move.

 

Hojlund, who has previous Serie A experience with Atalanta, hasn’t been in United’s squad for either of their first two Premier League games.

Leverkusen clearout could continue

Piero Hincapie is the latest Bayer Leverkusen star keen to leave, according to Fabrizio Romano.

 

The centre-back has a release clause worth £52m, with Spurs among the interested parties and already making an approach.

 

Since the departure of title-winning boss Xabi Alonso, Leverkusen have seen the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Granit Xhaka complete Premier League moves.

Nosie has grown about Liverpool potentially turning their attentions to Julian Alvarez if they can’t clinch a deal for Alexander Isak.

DONE DEAL: Rowe joins Bologna after Marseille exile

Jonathan Rowe has completed a speedy move away from Marseille after clashing with team-mate Adrien Rabiot.

 

Both Rowe and Rabiot were put up for sale after an early-season incident, though the latter could yet return to the first team picture.

 

England Under-21 international Rowe is now a Bologna player, having completed a £17m move to the Italian side.

 

Man Utd target Lammens absent

Senne Lammens sat out Royal Antwerp’s win over Mechelen as talk of a move to Manchester United rumbles on.

 

Yannick Thoelen took the 23-year-old’s spot as Antwerp won despite a red card for midfielder Dennis Praet.

AS Roma are in talks to sign Konstantinos Tsimikas from Liverpool, it has been claimed.

Spurs to hijack Palace deal

Tottenham could be about to hijack Crystal Palace’s swoop for Bilal El Khannouss.

 

That’s according to Africa Foot, who claim that Spurs are also sweet on the idea of signing the attacking midfielder from Leicester City.

 

The Eagles want to sign El Khannouss as Eberechi Eze’s successor after he left the club for Arsenal – after holding talks with Tottenham.

 

 

 

ICYMI: Fernandes targeted again

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes is a target for Al-Ittihad, according to The Sun.

 

Fernandes was subject to interest from interest from Al Hilal earlier in the window, but wanted to remain playing in Europe, which suggests he has no interest.

 

United will leave the 30-year-old to make his own decision again, as they did earlier this summer. It is understood that talks with Fernandes’ camp have already taken place and Al Ittihad are willing to pay the midfielder £33m per year.

Leicester City defender James Justin is closing in on a move to Leeds.

 

The versatile full-back is set to undergo a medical with the Premier League new boys after Leeds struck a £10m agreement with Leicester for the player’s services, per The Telegraph.

Man City plot Guehi hijack

Manchester City could swoop in for Marc Guehi next week – if Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake departs the club.

 

The Crystal Palace captain has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks and is inside the final year of his contract.

 

Liverpool are expected to launch a bid for Guehi before the transfer deadline.

 

But The Star reports that City will consider making a move for the England star if interest in Akanji and Ake leads to them leaving.

 

Spurs eye Paqueta deal

Tottenham could launch a second raid on West Ham before the transfer deadline with Lucas Paqueta in their sights.

 

Spurs poached Mohammed Kudus from their London rivals earlier this summer in a £65million deal.

 

And The Mail now claim that they and Aston Villa are considering a late swoop for Paqueta as the summer transfer window enters its final week.

Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing is poised to seal a move to FC Midtjylland.

 

The Denmark international is set to return to his home country after Midtjylland agreed terms on a £5million deal with Bournemouth.

 

Billing is travelling overseas today to undergo a medical and finalise the switch.

Arsenal agree record midfielder deal

16-year-old prodigy Victor Ozhianvuna is poised to join Arsenal in a deal which will make him the most expensive player in League of Ireland history, per The Athletic.

 

The Shamrock Rovers midfielder will join the Gunners for €2million (£1.73m): a sum which surpasses the previous £1.6m record fee that Tottenham paid for Mason Melia.

 

Ozhianvuna will sign a pre-contract with Arsenal and join officially in January 2027 when he turns 18.

Newcastle in for Disasi

Newcastle are said to be preparing an offer for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.

 

According to the Chronicle, the Magpies are interested in Disasi, who is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after spending time on loan at Aston Villa last season.

 

 

Altay Bayindir has been given the nod to start again for Manchester United with Andre Onana being named on the bench for their trip to Fulham.

 

Onana, 29, suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season and was not named in the squad that lost 1-0 to Arsenal last weekend despite a significantly improved performance. Bayindir was at fault for the Gunners’ goal, though Ruben Amorim defended the Turkish keeper after the game.

 

United are currently in advanced talks with Royal Antwerp over a €20million (£17m) deal for the Belgian outfit’s promising young goalkeeper, Senne Lammens. The 23-year-old is expected to complete a move to Old Trafford imminently which will only fuel suggestions that Onana’s days as No 1 are numbered, though he is not currently expected to be sold.

 

Speaking before Sunday’s game at Craven Cottage, Amorim made it clear that he had made the call to stick with Bayindir rather than restore Onana to his XI. “It’s the kind of decision that the manager has to make, try to see the game, try to imagine the next game and try to put the best players to win the game, so I did that,” he told Sky Sports.

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has hit back at “nonsense” claims he is trying to seal an exit from the club after publicly revealing his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis is “not good”.

 

Nuno made the surprising claims ahead of his side’s clash against Crystal Palace this weekend as he said “our relations have changed” and admitted “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” amid doubts over his job.

 

Now Nuno has responded to the suggestion that his explosive claims could be seen as a way of pushing for an exit. “That’s nonsense,” he told Sky Sports ahead of the Palace clash.

 

“Doesn’t make any kind of sense. We are focused on the game and that is more important. Make sure that the players are ready. This game is going to be very tough.”

Pickford’s role in Grealish transfer

Jordan Pickford admits he was straight on the phone to Jack Grealish and told him to “hurry up” when he first heard that there was a chance he could be heading to Everton.

 

The Manchester City playmaker has now completed a season-long loan move to the Toffees and made his debut off the bench in Monday night’s defeat at Leeds. Pickford and Grealish have been together in numerous England camps with their partners also good friends.

 

Together they’ve helped the Three Lions reach major tournament finals and Pickford was desperate to reunite on the club scene. Grealish’s time in Manchester appeared to be up and Everton moved to land him for the next 12 months.

 

Their goalkeeper did his bit to try and get the deal over the line as he talked up the perks of being a player on Merseyside. Now that the ex-Aston Villa man is on board Pickford is talking up the potential of a European charge.

 

He said: “I’m good friends with Jack. When the Everton rumours started, we had a couple of conversations. I said he’d love it here, it’s a proper home club, and messaged ‘Hurry up you!’ When he told me it was nearly all done, I was like ‘Box ticked’.”

Chelsea clear-out continues

Chelsea’s summer clear-out continues at pace with Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino the latest to pack their bags for Borussia Dortmund, taking the Blues’ income from sales past a jaw-dropping £270 million.

 

Chukwuemeka, 21, who lit up Dortmund on loan last season, is going back to the Bundesliga outfit permanently in a £24 million deal with a tasty sell-on clause and the England Under-20 ace snubbed RB Leipzig to return to the Westfalenstadion.

 

That deal alone rockets Chelsea ’s sales to a League-leading £273.4 million that almost cancels out the £277 million splashed on signings. The exodus comes after Uefa slapped the club with a £26.7 million fine for breaching their squad cost ratio rules and warned owners Clearlake Capital that they must post a positive balance if they want to register their shiny new recruits for the Champions League.

 

Meanwhile, Argentine starlet Anselmino, 19, is off to Dortmund on loan – although the deal does not include an option to buy. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has told the teenager that minutes at the Bridge will be at a premium this season but he remains earmarked for a role in the future.

Paqueta in demand

West Ham’s start to the season could get worse yet amid reports that Tottenham and Aston Villa are both weighing up a move for key midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

 

The Hammers have had a disastrous start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign after losing 3-0 to newly-promoted Sunderland on the opening day before a 5-1 hammering at home to Chelsea on Friday night.

 

There is increasing pressure on manager Graham Potter already just two games into the season with fans getting restless and concerned with two trips to Nottingham Forest and Tottenham coming up.

 

And there could be more trouble for the Hammers amid huge interest in Paqueta, who has just been cleared of wrongdoing amid an investigation into betting allegations.

 

After a difficult period that saw him facing a lifetime ban from football, the Brazilian international is now keen to play for a Champions League side, according to the Daily Mail.

Lammens hint

Manchester United transfer target Senne Lammens has been left out of the squad for Royal Antwerp’s clash with Mechelen as he inches closer to joining the Red Devils. Ruben Amorim is keen to sign a new goalkeeper, with Lammens set to provide competition for Andre Onana.

 

Onana has come under fire since joining United from Inter Milan in 2023 after making several high-profile errors, but there is a lack of genuine competition for his spot as No.1. Onana did not make the squad for United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend and backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was at fault for Riccardo Calafiori’s winner.

 

As a result, United are looking to sign Lammens for £17.3million and a deal appears to be very close after Antwerp did not select him against Mechelen. Yannick Thoelen was handed his first start of the season instead, while new signing Taishi Brandon Nozawa made the bench.

Crystal Palace not aligned on Eze replacement

Crystal Palace could land two new signings with the money they’ve raised from Eberechi Eze’s sale – but the manager and the chairman are both eyeing different individuals.

 

Oliver Glasner has seen few new faces arrive but the departure of his star man means he and the club must now act. The Sun reports that the ex-Frankfurt boss wants Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, who has been a big hit in Belgium after proving to be a flop at Norwich.

 

Palace chairman Steve Parish though is keen on Villarreal’s forward Yeremy Pino. Glasner though is unclear how the 22-year-old Spaniard would fit into the team, casting doubt over his signing.

 

The Eagles though hope that both men can be secured for around £20m, which means they could go after Pino and Tzolis if they wanted to give the money they’ve just raised from Eze.

Emery wants clarity on Villa squad

Aston Villa loss at Brentford on Saturday and they’ve been largely quiet this summer, but Unai Emery still wants to know where everyone stands.

 

“We have to clarify some circumstances we have in the transfer window,” said the Spaniard after the game.

 

We have enough players but we need to clarify with some players if they are staying or not, and the possibility we can add some to help us.”
