Liverpool fans have come to a conclusion about Hugo Ekitike following their game against Athletic Bilbao amid the club’s pursuit of Alexander Isak.

Liverpool played back-to-back friendlies against Bilbao on Monday ahead of facing Crystal Palace in the Community Shield on Sunday.

A youthful team, which included the likes of Rio Ngumoha, Ben Doak and Trey Nyoni, beat the La Liga side 4-1 before Arne Slot fielded his first-team stars in the second game.

Summer signings Jeremie Frimping and Florian Wirtz played from the start, not to mention Ekitike, who was recruited from Eintracht Frankfurt in a transfer worth up to £79 million.

The Frenchman looked sharp in attack and played a huge role in his side’s first goal that was scored by Mohamed Salah.

Dominik Szoboszlai played a through ball to Ekitike, who raced onto it before brilliantly creating an opening by setting up Salah, who made no mistake in front of goal.

Ekitike, who played 57 minutes of his team’s 3-2 victory, floated from the left on several occasions in the first-half and poised a huge threat.

Following his stellar performance, Liverpool fans are convinced the 23-year-old can play on the left-wing while Isak can operate down the middle should he sign from Newcastle United this summer.

Ekitike hasn’t directly responded to reports linking Liverpool with a sensational move for Isak, but he gave a telling answer when asked about his versatility in attack.

He said he can play both ‘alone’ and ‘with another’ striker, fuelling speculation and exciting Liverpool fans.

“I can’t define myself only as a striker [who likes] to finish: I like to play, I like to be in the game, in the collective part of play [and] create also,” he said during his official unveiling.

“So, I can do both – I can play alone and I like to play also with another striker.”

Liverpool fans are all in agreement and made the same complaint after seeing a detail in the club’s new adidas kit.

Liverpool have made some major changes this summer ahead of the new season.

They’ve splashed the cash to sign the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, while losing Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid.

The Premier League champions have also ditched Nike, having secured a lucrative deal with adidas.

Liverpool will wear a new kit for the 2025/26 campaign, which was debuted on Monday when the Reds played La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in back-to-back friendly games at Anfield.

A youthful Liverpool team beat Bilbao 4-1, with the likes of Rio Ngumoha, who got on the scoresheet, and Ben Doak starring in their victory.

Arne Slot fielded his first-team stars in the second match, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Wirtz playing from the start.

Ahead of kick-off, Liverpool took to social media to share images of Salah and Wirtz’s shirts.

But fans online weren’t impressed with the font on the back of the two shirts.

They urged the club to change the font as they made their feelings known.

One X user wrote: “This font needs to go, it’s awful.”

A second said: “It’s too beautiful (except the font).”

Wirtz, meanwhile, has been given the iconic No.7 shirt at Liverpool, which was previously worn by Luis Diaz, who moved to Bayern Munich.

And the club confirmed the sale of 42,000 Wirtz shirts within one hour of the announcement, prompting the official website to crash due to high demand.

LFC and adidas home shirt 2025/26 revealed

The Merseyside club launched their 2025/26 home jersey earlier this month – a clean all-red colourway featuring white three stripes down the sleeves and a crew neck collar.

At the nape of the neck there’s a ’97 emblem encased by the eternal flames.

Supporters can grab theirs from LFC’s official online store, head into official LFC stores (UK and internationally) or via the LFC Retail App for delivery.

LFC fans urged to honour Diogo Jota with new adidas kit

LFC have announced that supporters can honour late Liverpool legend Diogo Jota by getting ‘Diogo J. 20’ printed on the back of their shirts.

Printing is available in official club stores, via the LFC online store, as well as adidas shops or online.

All profits will go to LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity, with the Foundation committed to creating a grassroots football programme in Jota’s name.

Ben Latty, chief commercial officer at LFC, has described the Home and Away kit launch as the ‘beginning of a 10-year relationship for LFC and Adidas.’

The French striker joined Liverpool in July despite interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Details of how Liverpool’s key players really feel about new signing Hugo Ekitike have emerged ahead of the Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace.

On Sunday afternoon, Premier League champions Liverpool will travel to London to face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium for the FA Community Shield final.

For many Liverpool fans, the match will serve as the first chance to see the Reds in action ahead of their Premier League opener against Bournemouth on August 15.

With several of the clubs new signings expected to be involved in the game, these fans will also be eager to watch any of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong playing their first competitive match for Liverpool.

But ahead of the match, a new report has revealed exactly how the Liverpool squad feel about latest addition Ekitike.

Following weeks of rumours, Ekitike finally secured a move to Liverpool late in July, joining from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal said to be worth up to £79million.

Just days later, the Frenchman was handed his Liverpool debut during a pre-season friendly match against Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos, playing the first half of the game.

Footage of Ekitike in training posted online has got some fans seriously excited about his potential, and a new report has revealed that this view is shared by his new teammates who were surprised by how good the striker already is.

Writing for TBR Football, Graeme Bailey claimed: “I’m hearing that Ekitike has slotted in so well, like he has been part of the squad for years. He has been dazzling in many regards.

“I’m told the players are not shocked by his talent, but certainly, some did not really grasp just how good he was.

“Liverpool’s coaches are delighted with him.”

Are Liverpool still interested in signing Alexander Isak?

Despite Ekitike’s impressive performances both in training and in his Liverpool debut, it is still believed that the Reds are hoping to finally complete a deal for Newcastle United star Alexander Isak in the coming days.

Throughout the summer break, Liverpool’s actions in the window have made it clear that the Swedish international is their top target, with Isak also evidently keen on the move.

Although Liverpool’s first official bid for Isak was rejected by Newcastle, the striker’s recent behaviour paired with the fact that he’s made it clear that he wants to leave the club means it is looking increasingly likely that he will wear red next season.

But in order for Isak to complete a transfer to Liverpool it is believed that two things need to happen.

Of course, the first is that Liverpool will need to return with a new bid that improves on their opening £110m offer, with the second being that Newcastle must sign a replacement striker before letting Isak go.

RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko is believed to be Eddie Howe’s top target, with the likes of Brentford striker Yoane Wissa and Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz also linked.

Luis Diaz is moving to Bayern Munich from Liverpool but clarification on the transfer fee has arrived.

Luis Diaz’ move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich is imminent but a new update has revealed the Colombian’s actual transfer fee.

On Sunday, it was reported that Bayern and Liverpool had agreed a £65.5 million fee for Diaz, who has been keen to leave the Reds for a new challenge despite winning the Premier League last term.

He was left out of their squad for the pre-season friendly loss to AC Milan and is expected to land in Munich on Tuesday to undergo a medical and sign his Bayern contract.

The sale of Diaz follows the £10 million departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, with many feeling as though the exit will free up funds to continue their mammoth summer spree and go all out for wantaway Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.

However, a fresh report claims the fee for Diaz is not as much as first thought.

According to German outlet BILD, Bayern have agreed to pay Liverpool a flat fee of £58.6 million – with a potential £6.5 million in bonus payments for the former Porto forward.

Liverpool paid around £42.5 million to sign Diaz but will no look to reinvest the money and add to their four major signings this summer, with Isak seen as the final piece of the jigsaw.

As per Fabrizio Romano among many other reporters, Liverpool are now set to go big for the Swede and are “ready to enter strong with record proposal” in the imminent future.

Isak has asked to leave the club in pursuit of new challenge and has not travelled with the Magpies for their pre-season tour of Asia, with the club citing a minor thigh problem.

Liverpool can still afford Alexander Isak

Liverpool have already splashed out more than £280 million on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike but can still afford a mega move for Isak.

They earned £174.9 million in prize money for winning the Premier League last term and it was reported that the Merseyside giants have benefitted from FSG’s decision to renew the £350m revolving credit facility which was due to expire this month.

A bid for Isak is believed to be imminent. 

As a result, they technically still have another £90 million to spend under the PSR rules and a £150 million deal for Isak would be amortised over a five-year period – effectively meaning £30 million would go into the this year’s set of accounts.
