Liverpool is not willing to sanction Harvey Elliott’s exit at this stage of the summer window

Liverpool remains reluctant to sanction the sale of Harvey Elliott at this stage of the summer transfer window.

The Reds have seen several significant first-team players leave over recent months, with the club cashing in on Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah and Caoimhin Kelleher. But, with just three days remaining in the summer market, there is hesitance at Liverpool to allow Elliott to leave.

That is despite widespread interest in the 22-year-old across the Premier League and Europe. A move to RB Leipzig has been on the cards for a few weeks, and the German club is understood to have made a renewed push to sign Elliott before Monday’s deadline.

While no bid has been lodged yet, Leipzig sees the Liverpool star as a potential replacement for Xavi Simons, who is close to signing for Tottenham Hotspur. Leipzig has also seen Benjamin Sesko depart and is keen to reinforce after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign.

Liverpool.com understands it will take a sensational offer for Liverpool to permit Elliott’s exit before the window shuts on Monday. That would certainly be in excess of the figures paid for Tyler Dibling (£40M/$54M), Mateus Fernandes (£38M/$51M) Omari Hutchinson (£38M/$51M) this summer.

It could even be above the £64M ($86M) fee Newcastle United is reportedly set to pay for Nick Woltemade in the final days of the summer window.

Liverpool still places great value on Elliott, who again highlighted his talent over the summer with excellent displays for England at the Under-21 European Championships.

That he was voted player of the tournament and Woltemade received a silver medal in the individual awards has not been overlooked.

It has justified a feeling among the Anfield hierarchy to hold out for a significant fee, especially given the Reds will struggle to find a replacement at this stage of the summer.

Given the 22-year-old is capable of playing as no.10 or winger, his versatility is also greatly appreciated. With Mohamed Salah set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, Elliott could provide a natural replacement for the Egyptian.

The ex-Fulham man has not started any of Liverpool’s first three games this season but has made two substitute appearances. He was introduced late on at St James’ Park and played a significant role in Rio Ngumoha’s late winner.

Elliott has made no secret that he feels perhaps the time is right for him to move this summer, and has spoken about his future on several occasions in recent months.

“If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career,” he told the Anfield Wrap during Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia.

“I love everything about the club. But at the same time I need to be selfish and see what’s best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. It’s still something I need to review

“We have had many new players come in, whether that blocks the path for me, I don’t know. It is something I need to decide. My main focus is here, unless anything changes.”
