Liverpool next 5 fixtures compared to Arsenal as Premier League lead grows after Brentford win

Liverpool’s lead in the Premier League title race has grown to six points after the win over Brentford, with Arsenal losing ground ahead of a crucial set of fixtures.

Liverpool’s hold on the title race has grown stronger after an almost perfect Saturday for Arne Slot’s men.

The Reds have Darwin Nunez to thank after his stoppage time double secured a dramatic victory over Brentford that extended their lead over Arsenal in the Premier League. The day would get even better for Liverpool, with Aston Villa going on to hold the Gunners to a 2-2 draw that leaves them six points off the pace.

Thoughts will now turn to the Champions League for both sides as they look to wrap up their spots in the last-16, with Liverpool needing just a point against Lille on Tuesday. Thereafter, it will be back to league matters as the Reds look to take a decisive lead over the next few

Liverpool

25 January: Ipswich (H)

1 February: Bournemouth (A)

12 February: Everton (A)

16 February: Wolves (H)

23 February: Man City (A)

With their lead now at six points, the Reds will be expected not to stumble in their next game as they host relegation-threatened Ispwich in a replay of the opening game of the season.

Things get trickier thereafter though. A trip to Bournemouth certainly looks a daunting prospect given how impressive Andoni Iraola’s side is this season, and the rescheduled Merseyside derby at Goodison Park is always a tricky one to judge, regardless of what form Everton is in.

Wolves’ bounce under new manager Vitor Pereira doesn’t look to have lasted too long, and they will be clear underdogs when they visit Anfield, while a trip to Manchester City is still a tough encounter for Liverpool, especially if – as expected – Pep Guardiola adds to his squad before the end of the January transfer window.

Despite that win over Tottenham during the week, Arsenal still doesn’t look all that convincing at the moment, and now Mikel Arteta may have the added headache of an injury to William Saliba.

A trip to Wolves is next up for the Gunners. That should, on paper, result in three points for them, but the following week presents a big challenge with City visiting the Emirates.

Leicester and West Ham don’t look as though they will pose too much threat, although the way things are going for Ruud van Nistelrooy, there is every chance the former may have changed managers again by then. A trip to Nottingham Forest though is a huge test, as Liverpool knows all too well, and the Reds will be hoping Nuno Espir ito Santo’s side can pick up another big result.
