Liverpool ready to replace Darwin Nunez after amazing striker CONFIRMS dream move

Darwin Nunez’s time at Liverpool seems to be edging closer to an end.

The Uruguayan arrived with so much hope. Having mesmerised Anfield and Jurgen Klopp in a Benfica shirt and then scoring four goals in one pre-season game during his debut summer, it seemed like Liverpool had finally got their hands on a ‘proper’ no.9.

But all that promise and hope quickly abated. In the last few years, Nunez has struggled with consistency at Anfield.

Under Klopp, there were glimpses of promise but never on a regular basis. They’d come in ebbs and flows.

Now under Arne Slot, Nunez isn’t even showing too much promise. He’s struggling to make an impact on the pitch and it’s clear he is not the kind of no.9 the Dutchman likes to work with

Sooner or later Liverpool will have to replace him. And it seems like the perfect forward has just announced he would love a reunion with Slot, potentially at Anfield.

Why Santiago Gimenez has just confirmed he could replace Darwin Nunez

If we want to analyse the kind of forward Slot likes to employ in his system, it would make sense to look at Santiago Gimenez, who led the line for the Liverpool head coach at Feyenoord.

Gimenez scored 49 goals and registered 13 assists under Slot at Feyenoord. He was a proficient finisher inside the box and had the ability to chase down loose balls, providing much needed defensive cover as well.

The Mexican is on fire this season as well and at 23 years of age, it seems imminent that he will soon make a move to a much higher division.

On paper, he could be the perfect replacement for Nunez at Anfield and it seems he would be quite open to a move as well.

Asked by Fox Sports via Soccer News if he expects to play for Slot again, Gimenez said:

“Yes, absolutely. Football is always about meeting the same familiar faces again and that is the beauty of this world. You leave an impression, make friends all over the world, and later you see each other again, greet each other and meet again.”

The Mexican forward also added that it would be a dream move for him to play in one of Europe’s top five league

“Since I was a kid I always wanted to play in one of the top five leagues in the world and one of those leagues is Spain, England or Italy,” Gimenez said.

This will be music to Liverpool’s ears because it would probably be a dream move for the club as well. Gimenez ticks every box. He fits into Slot’s system, he knows Slot’s system having worked with him and he’s still young with a lot of potential.

Let’s hope his desire to reunite with Slot is now put into motion by the powers that be at Liverpool.
