Liverpool’s season is underway and it began with defeat via a penalty shootout in Sunday’s Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium. Arne Slot’s side now turn their attention to their Premier League title defence, which starts with Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night.

 

Yet, the conversation continues to revolve around the transfer window and the ongoing Alexander Isak saga.

 

The Swedish striker has been instructed to train separately and did not feature in either of Newcastle United’s two friendlies last weekend. Manager Eddie Howe does not see an quick end to the saga whilst the Magpies have reportedly blocked their player from leaving. Liverpool have already had an offer turned down for the unsettled star.

 

Meanwhile Palace’s Marc Guehi has entered the spotlight once again following his performance at Wembley on Sunday. His club’s chairman, Steve Parish, has now acknowledged the possibility of losing the defender for free next summer.

 

And reports around Harvey Elliott’s future have also increased in recent days with RB Leipzig said to pushing to sign the England Under-21 star. He could be the next to follow Darwin Nunez out the door following the striker’s £46m move to Al-Hilal.

Ed Arrons of the Guardian claims Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner would rather Marc Guehi stay at Selhurst Park for the final 12 months of his contract instead of joining Liverpool.

 

The Premier League champions are in talks with Palace over a deal for the England international, though Aarons claims Glasner is keen to keep the central defender.

 

Writing on X, Glasner said: “Understand Oliver Glasner would prefer Marc Guehi to stay at Palace for another season and see out his contract.

 

“Palace want to sell England defender so they don’t lose him for nothing next year but Guehi prepared to stay in south London if Liverpool don’t meet £40m valuation.”

Premier League matches to pay tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva

 

A minute’s silence will be held at all Premier League matches this weekend in honour of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, the league has confirmed.

 

The Premier League has been in discussions with Liverpool to determine the most fitting way to commemorate the Portuguese star, who tragically lost his life in a car accident alongside his brother on 3 July in Spain.

 

In addition to a moment of silence before each match, players from all clubs will wear black armbands, and clubs will be provided with messaging and imagery to display on their big screens.

 

Tributes were already paid to the brothers ahead of last Sunday’s Community Shield match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Wembley, where wreaths were laid on the pitch and a period of silence was observed before kick-off.

 

Unfortunately, a small group of Eagles fans disrupted the silence, prompting a strong reaction from the opposite end of the pitch and from other Palace supporters who attempted to quieten those showing disrespect during the tribute

 

Elliott exit

 

Harvey Elliott’s proposed move to RB Leipzig is moving closer, according to Sky Sport Germany. They report that there is ‘positive signals’ regarding the 22-year-old’s proposed switch to the Bundesliga.

 

Elliott is said to be not opposed to a move to Leipzig, although there has been no breakthrough or decision yet. Talks remain open-ended involving Liverpool and the German club.

Liverpool chasing two defender deals

 

Good afternoon from the ECHO sports desk here in Merseyside.

 

Which, by the way, is the home of Liverpool Football Club.

 

And they’ve been proper cracking on with some transferical stuff today. And none of it has been Alexander Isak, for whom Liverpool have not yet made a second bid.

 

Instead, it’s the defence that is being given a potential revamp.

 

For a start, Liverpool are in talks with Crystal Palace over a £30m move for Marc Guehi.

 

And then there’s the fact they are also ready to have a go at buying Parma teenager Giovanni Leoni.

Second Isak bid

 

Liverpool will make a second bid for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak before the summer transfer window closes, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

 

He told AceOdds: “The situation with Isak is tough right now. He’s training alone. His entourage and him say that last season he spoke to Newcastle saying it would be his last season at the club and if an important offer arrived he would leave. He only wants Liverpool and he’s waiting for them to make another offer which Newcastle will accept.

 

“When a player doesn’t want to stay at a club, it’s difficult for a club to keep the player because the player is unhappy and he’s not involved in the group.

 

“When really high offers come in like the Inter Milan €45m offer for Lookman or Liverpool offering more than €100m for Isak, in the end it’s difficult to keep the player. They’re trying to have the best price for the player like Sporting did with Gyokeres until Arsenal raised the offer.

 

“I think Isak could join Liverpool but it’s difficult to be sure. Liverpool is the only club he wants to go to and with Nunez gone, Liverpool will go back in for Isak.”

Guehi deal

 

Liverpool remain keen on Marc Guehi, with the Reds expected to step up their efforts to sign the Crystal Palace captain.

 

The 25-year-old has less than 12 months remaining on his Palace contract and has shown no indication of negotiating a new deal.

 

It’s reported that a deal for England international Guehi could be as little as £30million to £35m including add-ons.

 

Given the breaking news, odds have been slashed on Guehi making the switch to Anfield. Betfair are now pricing him at 1/6 to sign for the Reds, with 3/1 available that he stays at Palace.

Liverpool ‘working on’ Leoni and Guehi transfers

 

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool do not see Giovanni Leoni and Marc Guehi as alternative options and the Reds have been ‘working on’ both deals for weeks.

 

Leoni, a 18-year-old central defender from Parma, is seen as a top talent for the future, while Guehi, Crystal Palace’s FA Cup and Community Shield winning captain, is viewed as a ‘big opportunity’.

 

Negotiations for Leoni and Guehi are on, as the Reds look to strengthen their defence with Quansah departing for Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer and Joe Gomez once again struggling to remain fit.

Liverpool have intimated that they will not offer £150million for Alexander Isak this summer. The 25-year-old is adamant that he will not represent Newcastle United again, as he tries to force through a move.

 

Arne Slot’s side made a first official bid – claimed to be worth £110million flat – for the Sweden international earlier this month, but the offer was rejected by Newcastle.

 

The Magpies are adamant that the ex-Borussia Dortmund man is NOT for sale, but the only way they could allow Isak to leave is if Liverpool make a bid in the region of £150m and they are able to sign two strikers of suitable quality to replace him.

 

However, Liverpool have suggested that they will not offer that sort of money for a player they know is desperate to join them, according to The Telegraph.

 

 

Barcola to Liverpool update

 

Liverpool are not targeting a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, it has been claimed.

 

Talk has intensified about a move to Liverpool for Barcola, with the Reds long-term admirers of the France international. Barcola has been at PSG since August 2023 after starting his career at Lyon. During his time at the Parc des Princes, he has scored 26 times and provided 30 assists in 103 appearances.

 

However, according to The Athletic, senior Liverpool figures have dismissed reports that the Reds are eyeing a move for Barcola this summer. It’s added that Slot’s men believe bringing in a left-sided forward with his profile would block the pathway for teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha.

Leoni to Liverpool latest

 

Italian journalist Eleonora Trotta has revealed that Liverpool ‘are really crazy’ about Parma’s Giovanni Leoni.

 

The Reds have expressed an interested in signing the 19-year-old centre-back this summer, but have not many any contact with Parma regarding Leoni yet.

 

Parma have slapped an asking price of £34.5m on Leoni’s head and it’s claimed that Liverpool would be prepared to go high for the defender.

Gordon role in Isak saga

 

Anthony Gordon has played an unintended role in the Alexander Isak transfer saga, with the Liverpool target insistent that he won’t represent Newcastle United again.

 

The Swede has no intention to be reintegrated into the squad, as he is said to be furious over a broken contract promise that led him to decide that last season would be his final one at St James’ Park.

 

Former Newcastle director and minority co-owner Amanda Staveley had promised Isak that he and the club would sit down to discuss a new deal, which would have been just rewards for his performances. However, Staveley, who left the Magpies in July 2024, departed before both parties could come to the negotiating table.

 

Paul Mitchell arrived as Newcastle’s sporting director and provided a U-Turn on that promise, which angered Isak. Ex-Tottenham and Monaco chief Mitchell cited the club’s need to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), but in October last year Anthony Gordon signed a new long-term contract.

Newcastle confirm Isak squad number

 

Newcastle United have confirmed their squad numbers of the 2025/26 season, with Alexander Isak remaining as number 14.

 

Well the Magpies were never going to strip him of his jersey, were they?

 

However, what is perhaps slightly more interesting is the fact that Newcastle’s number nine shirt was up for grabs after Callum Wilson’s exit.

 

For Isak not to take ownership of that famous black and white number nine jersey is perhaps another hint of the wantaway Swede’s intentions in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Liverpool ‘will bid again’ for Isak

 

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool will submit another bid for Alexander Isak.

 

At present it is unclear what the Reds’ next steps are with regards to the Sweden international, but these are pretty bold claims being made this afternoon.

 

“Liverpool will bid again for Isak, as always planned since July…,” Romano wrote in a tweet posted at 12:34pm on Tuesday.

Liverpool’s new kit deal with adidas officially began at the start of the month and the early signs are bright.

 

The Reds released a pair of striking new strips that have been a hit among supporters.

 

Speaking in a statement, Liverpool said:

The home kit outstripped sales of last year’s launch by over 700 per cent, with orders from 150 countries to date. While LFC’s flagship Anfield store had its busiest week ever at the newly refurbished outlet, which was reopened in time for the new kit launches.”

 

 

The Athleticreported on Tuesday morning that Parma’s Giovanni Leoni remains a player of interest to the Reds.

 

It is being claimed that Liverpool are ‘trying to persuade’ the 18 year-old to make a move to Anfield but are aware that the prospects of the centre-back leaving Italy are unlikely.

 

The Athletic report that no Italian sides can afford to sign the player and that may give Liverpool a free run at getting a deal done providing they can convince him a move is the right decision.

Alexander Isak’s North East home on the market amid Liverpool bid – reports

 

According to reports, Alexander Isak’s house has reportedly returned to the rental market as the Newcastle United striker faces interest from Liverpool.

 

The Reds are involved in a saga involving their Premier League rivals in a deal that could exceed the current transfer record for a top-flight move.

 

The reigning Premier League champions have already seen their £110million bid rejected by the North East club, despite the Sweden international expressing his intention to leave St James’ Park.

 

According to The Times, the £6,590-a-month home in the region returned to the rental market in the latest twist involving a fractured relationship between Newcastle and their record-signing.

More so, those involved can see the Magpies are pushing to sign a replacement and his refusal is in order to make sure they don’t stop.

The Athletic have reported that Liverpool haven’t relied on sales to fund a move for Alexander Isak.

 

However, Darwin Nunez’s sale opens up a space in the squad and allows more financial leeway.

 

It’s been suggested that Isak informed the Magpies of his desire to leave two weeks before last season finished and again after the final game of the season.

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach for Marc Guehi.

 

According to Football Transfers, the Red Devils are looking to rival Liverpool for the signature of the England international.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Manchester City are seriously considering a move for Rodrygo, if Savinho leaves.

 

The City forward is said to be on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur.

 

As a result, Pep Guardiola is said to be pushing for the signature of the Real Madrid attacker.

 

It comes after Dean Jones told Flash Score that Liverpool, City and Arsenal are circling over his future.

 

He said: “Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid is looking like one of the window’s late narratives – as three Premier League giants keep close watch.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool target Alexander Isak is adamant that he will never represent Newcastle United again.
