Liverpool could sign new players in five positions this summer, with the playing squad expected to have far more of an Arne Slot look about it next season.

Slot’s only outfield signing since arriving at Anfield remains Federico Chiesa, who was an opportunistic buy from Juventus last summer but has barely played.

3. A new left-back

Liverpool has Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas in this position but Robertson has endured a regressive season and Tsimikas has shown little to suggest that he might be capable of usurping the Scot as the Reds’ first-choice left-back.

It has emerged as an area of weakness in Liverpool’s team and Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth has been frequently linked with a move to Anfield, where he would probably be immediately installed as the team’s main left-back.

2. A new right-back

Liverpool will undoubtedly dip into the market for a new right-back to offset the expected departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but it is not yet clear which direction the club will go in.

There are two options: sign a replacement like Jeremie Frimpong who will immediately command a first-team spot, or sign a lower-profile player to compete with Conor Bradley for a place in the team. Either way, a new right-back is required.

1. Most important — a new striker

Liverpool has two strikers in Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota but they have managed just 11 Premier League goals between them under Slot. Nunez will almost certainly leave amid interest from Saudi Arabia, while Jota’s injury record makes him vulnerable as well.

Alexander Isak will probably prove out of reach, but there are other options out there who would represent significant upgrades on the Uruguayan, like Liam Delap or Victor Osimhen. Mohamed Salah cannot be expected to have another all-time great campaign in 2025-26; he needs his teammates to ease the goalscoring burden on him.
