The transfer window is just days from opening after the culmination oof the Premier League. The English top-flight season is over and clubs are turning their focus to the window which opens this Sunday.
The summer transfer window is split into two parts with the Club World Cup due to get underway next month and teams will have their first opportunity to get business done early between June 1 and 10. While clubs also have a month to make any final decisions on their out-of-contract stars.
Manchester United look keen to make a fast start, having made significant progress in their £62.5million pursuit of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. A deal looks all but done for the Brazil international and we could soon see it over the line.
Liverpool have also been busy during the run-in, as the newly-crowned champions prepare to welcome Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong for what could be towards £150m combined. Heading out the door will be Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose move to Real Madrid will soon be confirmed after his teary farewell to Anfield on Sunday.
Arsenal haven’t wasted time either, with midfielder Martin Zubimendi set to complete his long-awaited £51m move to the Emirates after he said his goodbyes to Real Sociedad. Now their search for a striker is taking centre stage, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres their No.1 target following his incredible 53-goal season.

Bayern CEO issues Wirtz reminder
Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern Munich’s CEO, has pointed to his club’s credentials in a lengthy statement as it looks as though Florian Wirtz will move elsewhere.
Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz had looked set to follow a number of other German stars in making the well-trodden move to Bavaria, only for Liverpool to steal a march.
Nothing is agreed just yet, but Arne Slot’s side appear to be in pole position over what would be a club-record swoop.

Cunha set for Man Utd medical
Wolves will allow Matheus Cunha to undergo a Manchester United medical after United met the terms of his contracr.
That’s according to The Athletic, who note their is optimism from Old Trafford that a deal can be wrapped up by June 1.
Cunha’s release clause is worth £62.5million, with earlier efforts to spread payment over five years understood to have been unsuccessful.

Man City wouldn’t need to break the bank for Cherki
If Manchester City push on with a move for Rayan Cherki, as reported by The Telegraph, it would be a much cheaper deal than one for Florian Wirtz.
The 21-year-old, who played for France at the 2024 Olympics, is expected to be available for less than £25m this summer.
A move to the Etihad Stadium could be financed by a sale of Jack Grealish, whose time at City appears to be up.

Wolves to reject opening Cunha offer
Wolves are set to knock back Manchester United’s initial offer for Matheus Cunha, according to BBC Sport.
United are understood to have attempted to spread the £62.5m cost over five years, something which doesnt suit the selling club.
The deal is still expected to eventually go through, though negotiations still need to be ironed out.
DONE DEAL: Iversen rejoins Preston
Daniel Iversen will soon be back at Preston North End, leaving Leicester City following their relegation to the Championship.
The goalkeeper, who enjoyed two fruitful loan spells with Preston, will rejoin the club on July 1 after his contract at the King Power Stadium expires.
“I love it here. It’s the most I’ve been happy. Preston is where I’ve played my best football,” he told club media.
“Preston feels like home for me. Everyone around the club are good people and the fans too. I just love it here so it’s a no brainer for me to come back.”

Bayern not giving up on Sane
Bayern Munich are continuing to work on a new deal for out-of-contract star Leroy Sane.
Germany winger Sane is now represented by Pini Zahavi, and Sky Deutschland reports that conversations are still ongoing.
The same publication also reports that Sane – who has been linked with an Arsenal switch – is unlikely to join Galatasaray despite interest from the Turkish side.

Cunha all but confirms United move
Matheus Cunha has all but confirmed his Manchester United move after praising head coach Ruben Amorim during an interview.
United are ready to meet Cunha’s £62.5m release clause, but would prefer to spread the cost over a number of years.
The Brazilian scored 15 league goals for current club Wolves this season, matching the record for a player from his country.

Bruno Fernandes’ Al Hilal deadline
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been given just 72 hours to decide whether to join Al Hilal, according to the Mail.
The Saudi club want to make him their marquee summer signing, ideally before they kick off their Club World Cup campaign.
Al Hilal will face Real Madrid, Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg in their group for the tournament.

Garcia opens up on future amid Arsenal-Barcelona battle
Joan Garcia insists he is remaining calm amid interest from Arsenal and Barcelona.
Both clubs have been linked with a summer swoop for the Espanyol goalkeeper, though Barca have also been linked with Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen.
“In the end, football, all the time, there is news is coming out, things are coming out. Until it becomes reality… it’s not always like that,” Garcia told TV3 (via Football Espana).
“But well, I’m telling you, I’m very calm and then whatever has to be decided, I’m sure I’ll think about it a lot with my people and choose what will be best for me… and it will no doubt be like that,”

Bournemouth’s potential Kerkez replacement
Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert is an option for Bournemouth as they prepare to lose Milos Kerkez, according to Le Parisien (via GFFN).
Hungary defender Kerkez looks destined for Liverpool in a deal worth a reported £45million.
Bournemouth have also been linked with Truffert’s team-mate Kyogo Furuhashi, who has struggled to settle in after joining from Celtic.

In recent days, Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a potential target for Chelsea as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Frimpong jets in to complete Liverpool move
Jeremie Frimpong has arrived in the UK to put the finishing touches on his Liverpool move, according to Sky Sports.
The Dutchman will move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen for around £29.5million.
Frimpong, who spent time in Manchester City’s academy, is an option at right-back or on the wing and is seen by many as a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Cunha’s parting gift
Matheus Cunha provided Wolves team-mates Andre and Joao Gomes with new Rolex watches after the club’s final game of the season.
The Brazilian is set to leave his compartiots behind at Molineux and join Manchester United in a £62.5m move.
Cunha has scord 15 league goals this season, matching the record for a Brazilian player in the Premier League – with Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Martinelli also posting the same total in years gone by.

Arsenal offer
Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha claim Arsenal have offered in excess of €70m (£58m) for Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners are said to have met with Gyokeres’ agent Hasan Cetinkaya at the Women’s Champions League final in Lisbon last weekend. There they presented the offer and it is set to be put to Sporting president Frederico Varandas during a meeting on Tuesday.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey wants to play first team football next season, and has accepted he may need to leave Manchester City to do so. The defender made his senior debut this season and has ambitions to play more at the highest level.
“I just want to play first team football to be honest,” Simpson-Pusey said. “I feel like I’ve done what I’ve needed to do with the under-21s. I just want to play first team football.”
“I guess we’ll see, that’s not on my mind yet [playing away from City]” he said. “But I’m definitely ready.”

Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is nearing a move to Bayern Munich. Tah is set to become a free agent in little over a month, but Bayern are in discussions over paying a fee to land the defender in time for the Club World Cup.
