Bayern fearing Liverpool in Wirtz

The summer transfer window opens in just 10 days’ time and Premier League clubs are preparing to make a rapid start. Arsenal are after a striker and Viktor Gyokeres is their No.1 target.

His future at Sporting Lisbon remains the subject of intense speculation, with a £60million price tag on his head. The Gunners aren’t just looking to upgrade the striker position, though, as Real Madrid winger Rodrygo is also on Mikel Arteta’s wish-list.

But not all managers can get what they want – just ask Ruben Amorim. His Manchester United side have missed out on a £100million payday after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham on Wednesday.

The Red Devils have already lined up a move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha by paying his £62.5m release clause. But who follows him through the doors of Old Trafford is unlikely to be another big-money signing.

Liverpool could make the biggest splash by capitalising on their Premier League title win. The newly-crowned champions are battling Bayern Munich in the race to sign the £126m-rated Florian Wirtz, who Manchester City have this week opted against pursuing.

Arsenal still undecided on Gyokeres

Arsenal are reportedly set to decide whether to go all out to sign Viktor Gyokeres, or pursue an alternative. Gyokeres is the hottest striker on the transfer market this summer after plundering goals for Sporting Lisbon, but Arsenal are keeping their options open for the time being.

Arsenal are in the market for a world-class centre-forward this summer and know they need to splash the cash, with a third successive runner-up finish coming in the Premier League. New sporting director Andrea Berta is the man tasked with finding the right player – and Gyokeres could well be that man.

However, The Athletic reports that the Gunners are still yet to firmly select Gyokeres as their number one option, with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko also in the picture. Arsenal have kept tabs on Sesko for some time and he may well offer a cheaper alternative to the in-demand Swede.

Bournemouth want to sign Lazio defender Mario Gila as a replacement for Dean Huijsen.

Huijsen is heading to Real Madrid, having turned from a £15million player to a £50m one in a single season. And TuttoMercatoWeb says Bournemouth have identified Gila as his replacement.

Three clubs interested in Hojlund

Manchester United have put all of their players up for sale this summer – and may have some interest in Rasmus Hojlund.

Fabrizio Romano says that Inter Milan have joined Napoli and Juventus in showing an interest in the Danish striker, despite him struggling this season.

Hojlund’s reputation is still good in Italy, where he previously played for Atalanta, and it seems the country could provide an exit route this summer.

Barca ‘like’ Diaz and Rashford

Barcelona sporting director Deco has admitted the club are interested in Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

“We like Luis Díaz and we like Rashford, but we can’t talk about players who have contracts,” he told local radio stadion Rac1. “For me, it’s much more important to improve what we have at home.”

Leverkusen want McAtee

Bayer Leverkusen are pushing to sign James McAtee from Manchester City this summer, according to Sky Germany.

Leverkusen’s interest in the City attacking midfielder surfaced earlier this year and continues to stick around. McAtee struggled for minutes in the early stages of the season but has been handed more opportunities by Pep Guardiola in recent months.

It remains to be seen whether he is up for a move to Germany, or whether Guardiola will try to keep him by promising more involvement next season.
