Mo Salah Could Make Shock MLS Move in January as Two Clubs Weigh Up Approach
It’s been clear for a while that a number of sides in the Saudi Pro League were interested in luring Mohamed Salah away from Liverpool.
The Egyptian put pen to paper on a two-year deal in the summer amid uncertainty over his future – but his latest outburst could speed up a potential departure.
“I could not believe I was sitting on the bench for 90 minutes,” the goal-getter said after his side’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United.
“That’s the third time. It’s the first time in my career I think. I am very disappointed, I have done so much for this club over years, especially last season, It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel it. Someone wants me to get all the blame. The club promised me a lot in summer. Now I’m on bench so I can say they haven’t kept those promises.”

Two Surprise MLS Sides Could Make January Approach for Liverpool’s Salah Amid Uncertainty

Salah, despite enduring a difficult start to the 2025/26 campaign, is still a player capable of making things happen. It was only last season when he plundered a career-best return of 34 goals and 23 assists across all competitions – but the arrivals of Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz have stunted Salah’s impact in the final third. This season, he’s scored five times and notched three assists.
But where could he end up if he decides to leave in January? Al-Ittihad offered a £150 million bid in the summer of 2023 and Saudi dealmakers are still fond admirers of the Egypt international, GIVEMESPORT understands.

According to GIVEMESPORT Senior Football Correspondent Ben Jacobs, though, the Saudi top flight is not the only potential landing point for the former AS Roma and Chelsea forward. Major League Soccer (MLS) side San Diego are yet to make a meaningful approach, Jacobs claims, but they are among his potential would-be buyers given that his future on the red half of Merseyside is now in doubt.

As ever-reliable Salah has been for Liverpool since his Italy-to-England switch in 2017, it’s evident that Slot is not afraid to drop him to the bench amid a downturn in form and goal contributions – but that, as mentioned earlier, has not gone down well with the seasoned right-winger. Overall, the Reds’ form has been dismal following a five-match winning streak at the start of the campaign, but what does that mean for Slot?
Despite Salah claiming the Dutchman has thrown him under the bus, The Times’ Paul Joyce has claimed that his position is safe for now. “Liverpool’s owners have given Slot their full backing, and it is unlikely Salah’s outburst will have any bearing on their stance,” he wrote after their stalemate with Leeds.

Liverpool are seemingly willing to stick with Slot for now, which might not be a huge surprise after he won the Premier League title last season. Their achievement in the 2024/2025 campaign undoubtedly carries a lot of weight, with Slot having credit in the bank heading into this campaign.
Results will undoubtedly have to improve, and with one Premier League win in their previous seven games, the pressure is on Slot to turn things around as soon as possible.
Liverpool need to make a decision and soon, as they are in danger of seeing their season drift away from them. The Reds will have been aiming to lift the Premier League title once again, but now, even Champions League qualification is looking like a difficult task.

The idea having credit in the bank for having a past title, that’s only a rhyme at Lfc. We saw Mourinho being sacked for far less bad results though he is/was a seasoned manager. Had Slot won the CL? At Lfc it is all about the money. They fabricate reasons just not to sign new players. They do the same not to sack.
