WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sky Sports reporter Sacha Tavolieri, Arsenal are interested in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike but Newcastle United have actually enquired about the 22-year-old. And Sky Sports Germany add that while the Frenchman is likely to leave the club this summer, the Bundesliga team have slapped a €80m (£67m) price tag on his head.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal are once again set to fall short in their bid to win their first Premier League title since 2004 and many believe their failure to get over the line is down to not having a clinical striker. The season-ending injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have intensified calls to recruit a new number nine and maybe the 6ft 3in Ekitike is the man to solve those problems.

DID YOU KNOW?

Arsenal have repeatedly been linked with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko but now Ekitike has come into the picture. The ex-Reims man left Paris Saint-Germain for Frankfurt last summer and since then he has scored 18 goals in 35 matches.
