Luis Enrique: ‘We were far superior to Liverpool’
PSG manager Luis Enrique has spoken about his team’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16.
“I don’t think it’s too difficult to analyse tonight’s game. We were far superior to Liverpool. We created more chances and produced a complete performance against one of Europe’s top sides. Football can be unfair at times.”
“Without a doubt, we’ve only played the first leg. We’re a side with nothing to lose. If we can replicate tonight’s performance, we can qualify.
“Sure, it’s a tough place to go to, but we’ll go there and play like we did tonight. We’ve come back from deficits like this before, and we’ll try to do that again.
“We deserved more,” said Luis Enrique. “Their best player was their goalkeeper – he was magnificent today. This wasn’t a game based on stats or details. We were far superior. We didn’t allow Liverpool to play. They were better than us for the first five minutes, but apart from that, we were on top.”
“We’ll go there and show ourselves to be a team that deserves to go through, that knows how to play. We’ve got nothing to lose.
“We can be proud of our players, our performance, and our fans,” added Luis Enrique. “I’m so proud of my team and my players. I congratulate them. A team can always improve. I’m a demanding coach. All I can do is praise my players and motivate them. We’ll go there and make our fans proud.”
