Liverpool manager Arne Slot has addressed misconceptions about the club’s transfer spending, emphasising their unique approach of balancing player sales with new signings in a market where most English clubs focus solely on buying.
“I can’t blame people that they don’t see or understand that we also bring money IN because that’s so exceptional in England,” Slot said. “Every club never sells and only buys.
“People in England don’t even have an idea that clubs also sell players.”
He explained that Liverpool allowed several players to depart this summer, stating, “A few players left because we thought it was best for them and they wanted to leave as well.
“If you want to leave and the right club is there, we don’t keep you then we are open to selling you.”
Slot’s remarks follow the club’s summer spending spree, a new reord in European football history – £415m spent on recruiting a stellar collection of talent.
The previous record was the £400m spent by Chelsea in summer 2023 – and Liverpool would have spent £35m more had a deal for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi not collapsed as the window closed.
