REPORT 》James Maddison revealed what Trent Alexander-Arnold told him after a harsh tackle landing him on the ground

In Tottenham Hotspur’s 6-3 defeat to Liverpool last night, emotions flared early in a dramatic first half filled with intensity, goals, and controversy. One standout incident involved James Maddison and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose harsh tackle sparked a heated moment on the pitch. Maddison’s post-match revelation about the exchange has left fans debating the line between competitive fire and sportsmanship.
The clash occurred midway through the first half when Maddison, Tottenham’s midfield maestro, was leading a promising counterattack. In an effort to halt Maddison’s progress, Alexander-Arnold lunged into a robust challenge near the halfway line. The tackle sent Maddison crashing to the turf, prompting a pause in play as the Spurs star stayed down to recover.
While many in the stadium expected a gesture of concern or even a helping hand from the Liverpool defender, what happened next caught Maddison off guard.
Maddison’s Disheartening Revelation
After the match, Maddison was candid about the exchange during a media interview:
“When I hit the ground, I expected Trent to maybe offer a hand or check if I was alright—it’s what you’d normally expect, right?” Maddison said. “But instead, he leaned over me and said, ‘Get up, it’s not that bad.’ It was disheartening, to be honest. I’ve got a lot of respect for him as a player, but those words, in that moment, didn’t feel right.”
The comment appeared to sting Maddison, who continued, “We’re all competitive, but I think there’s a level of respect that should always be there, no matter the rivalry or stakes.”
