Erling Haaland headlines the nominees for August’s Premier League Player of the Month award after another prolific start to the season.

The Manchester City striker scored three goals, including a brace against Wolves and a milestone strike in his 100th league appearance versus Brighton.

He now holds the record for most goals in a player’s first 100 Premier League games.

Haaland is joined by fellow nominees Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool), Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal), Jack Grealish (Everton), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Joao Pedro (Chelsea), Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth), and Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool).

Pablo Maffeo, the 28-year-old Mallorca center-back, has publicly apologised for his controversial gesture toward fans during the final match at Son Moix last season, when he told them to be quiet amid tensions following a poor run of results.

Initially expected to leave the club during the summer transfer window, Maffeo has stayed and addressed the incident in a heartfelt video released by Mallorca, aiming to mend his relationship with the supporters and reaffirm his commitment to the team.

In the video, Maffeo took full responsibility for his actions, admitting, “Going out there and telling them to be quiet was my mistake, and I accept it because it’s true that they weren’t targeting me, but rather the team.

“But we were coming off a bad run; a lot of things came together. I was wrong, and if anyone in the stands felt offended, I apologize.”

He acknowledged that the fans’ chants had hurt him, saying, “It’s true that the chants hurt me, I didn’t like them, and I reacted badly. And a stone has become a mountain, and it shouldn’t have happened.”

Maffeo emphasised his desire to move forward, stating, “In the end, things aren’t going to change if the main culprit, which is me, doesn’t do his part. So, if I don’t do my part, things won’t change, and this could be a disaster. But it won’t be like that.”

Determined to rebuild trust, Maffeo vowed to take accountability and lead by example. “I think I have to fix a section of the stands myself and lay the first stone.

“I’ll do it, and at least I won’t leave here tomorrow or when my career is over and they won’t tell me that at least I didn’t try,” he said.

The defender, who has played through significant injuries for Mallorca—including three broken vertebrae, a broken knee, and a broken foot—reiterated his dedication to the club. “I’ve always said that I’m fine here in the city and that I simply thought my time here was over.

“Since that’s not the case, I’m obviously going to give it my all,” he declared.

“I would continue and will continue to do so because the good of the club is my good. So, there’s no problem on a sporting level.”
