Van Dijk tells Liverpool fans to ‘buckle up and enjoy the ride’ in title quest

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has called on fans to play a crucial role in the team’s Premier League title quest, urging them to get into “the best shape of their lives” to help the Reds over the line.

The Dutch defender’s comments came after Liverpool’s tense 2-1 win over Wolves at Anfield on Sunday, which restored their seven-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table.

Van Dijk acknowledged that nerves can creep in, especially during tense matches like the one against Wolves, but emphasized the importance of fans’ support in the title run-in.

“It’s easier said than done to control the nervousness around the stadium at times, but we have to just keep going and we need the fans in the best shape of their lives,” Van Dijk said.

“We need them to buckle up and enjoy the ride. Hopefully, by the end of the season, we can all enjoy it even more.”

Van Dijk also praised Wolves for their difficult approach, which made the second half of the match challenging for Liverpool.

“Wolves gave us a fight, and the willingness of everyone not to concede an equalizer was crucial,” he added.

Looking ahead to a crucial week that sees Liverpool travel to Aston Villa and Manchester City, Van Dijk emphasized the importance of focus and confidence.

“We just have to look to ourselves, focus on ourselves, not look at others, don’t get into any discussions with others,” he said.

“We just look at Liverpool, and that’s the only thing we have control over: winning games ahead of us.”

With Liverpool in a strong position in the title race, Van Dijk is determined to keep the team’s momentum going.

“We have to keep going, keep working, stay confident, and let’s see what it brings,” he said.

“I think we are in a very good position, but we want to be in a very good position in May, so we have to keep going.”
