Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez has been linked with a move to Liverpool

Milos Kerkez is a name that has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United this month – but the Reds might hold an advantage over their arch-rivals in the battle to secure the left-back’s signature. Speaking earlier this month, Kop icon Jamie Carragher called on his old club to sign a left-back in the January transfer window in a bid to boost their chances of winning the Premier League.

So it is little surprise that Kerkez has emerged as a possible target for the Reds. It was recently claimed that Liverpool are considering a move for the 21-year-old as a potential long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

However, a fresh twist emerged earlier this week when the Manchester Evening News reported that United are now interested in signing Kerkez. The report said United want to sign a left-sided player to effectively replace the injury-prone Luke Shaw, while fellow left back Tyrell Malacia could be sold this year.

Bournemouth, though, are seemingly determined to keep the Hungary international, who it has been claimed that they value at £50million, until the end of the season. However, it now appears that Liverpool have two secret weapons up their sleeve who could help get a deal for Kerkez over the line in the summer.

The first, of course, is Richard Hughes. The Liverpool sporting director previously worked at Bournemouth and was the man responsible for bringing Kerkez to the Vitality Stadium from AZ Alkmaar.

Now, though, it appears that the Reds have another secret weapon who could talk Kerkez into moving to Anfield instead of Old Trafford if required. Dominik Szoboszlai and the full-back are both international teammates for Hungary, and it appears that they have a close bond.

In an interview with Nemzeti Sport, Szoboszlai was asked who his best friend would be in the Premier League, to which he replied: “I would choose Bournemouth’s left-back, Milos Kerkez. He looks like me, only a little crazier than me. But he still has time to grow up.”

Speaking in the same interview, Szoboszlai also made it clear which trophy he wants to win the most in a Liverpool shirt. “The Champions League. That’s what every kid dreams of,” said the Hungary international.
