Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has not ruled out a signing in January but has reminded fans how difficult it can be to land acquisitions mid-season.

Ten days into the window, Arsenal have yet to buy or sell – although this year deadline day does not arrive until February 3, which gives clubs an extra few days to make transfer decisions.

The Gunners have continually been linked with Newcastle United star Alexander Isak amid rumours that Arteta could be looking at attacking reinforcements. Newcastle say they are expecting a quiet window, this designating an exit for Isak unlikely.

Meanwhile, there has been a claim that Arsenal have put in a phone call to Manchester United for Marcus Rashford, with a figure of £12m floated.

There also could be some sales this month amid speculation around the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko amid his limited game time this season.

Arsenal ‘make call’ for Rashford

It has been claimed that Arsenal have put in a phone call to Manchester United for Marcus Rashford.

The attacker could leave Old Trafford this January after outlining he is “ready for a new challenge” last month.

AC Milan and Juventus have also been linked with Rashford. Journalist Massimo Marianella has told Sky Italia that the Seire A clubs could be on the back foot.

As relayed by SpazioJ, Marianella said:

“It seems that Arsenal have made a phone call to Manchester United for Rashford. The club has valued him at €25m (£21m).”

Defender ‘shortlisted’

While the main focus is being placed on the attack, Mikel Arteta is still keeping one eye of defence.

That is according to Mundo Deportivo, which states that Arsenal are tracking Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

Juventus are depicted as frontrunners for his signature, though, while Barcelona are keen to offer him new terms despite his hesistancy to pen a fresh deal over game time guarantees

Arsenal ‘identify’ alternative striker

Arsenal have reportedly ringfenced Benjamin Sesko as an alternative striker target if they fail to land Alexnader Isak.

Sesko has scored 11 times in 23 matches for RB Leipzig this season, with just seven more goals needed to match last campaign’s tally.

The Mail says Arsenal have already done groundwork into what it would take to lure Sesko to the Emirates Stadium and are keeping him on their watchlist.

Arsenal ‘keen’ on Mbeumo

Arsenal are said to be tracking the situation of Bryan Mbeumo ahead of a potential summer swoop – but face competition from Manchester United.

The Brentford winger has scored 13 goals in 20 league matches this season, mainly from the right flank albeit has also grabbed a few as the lead striker.

The Daily Star says United will plan to make a bid for him over the summer. Arsenal are also thought to have competition for Mbeumo from Newcastle.

Trio ‘looking’ at Arsenal exits

The Daily Mail has also named three players who could be on their way out of the Emirates ahead of the start of next season.

Oleksandr Zinchenko could depart as early as this month given his little game time this season. He has started just two of his seven Premier League matches and has otherwise only made four other appearances.

Gabriel Jesus could also be let go this summer with the club willing to listen to offers for the Brazilian from here on in. Thomas Partey is not expected to be offered a renewal when his contract expires in June.

Arsenal ‘cannot afford’ Isak

Alexander Isak was always going to cost a lot but a report has suggested that Arsenal may essentially not be able to afford him.

The Daily Mail says Newcastle United could demand a British record fee for their star striker – which stands at £107m following Enzo Fernandez’s move to Chelsea from Benfica in 2023.

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is said to be very unlikely to dish out that amount, even in the summer, so as to keep the club in a good position within spending limits.

The Gunners technically have the capacity to acquire Isak but it would Leeds little room for any other expenditure.
