Tottenham sign Liverpool defender in late deadline day move

Tottenham have completed the signing of a Liverpool defender a few days before they face the Reds in the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of a Liverpool defender a few days before they face the Reds in the Carabao Cup.

News broke earlier today that Radu Dragusin had suffered an ACL injury that would keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

Even before that news, Spurs had a raft of injury problems and it has been highlighted as one of the reasons why Ange Postecoglou’s side have struggled in recent games.

With that in mind, the whole day has been full of stories linking Tottenham to a range of players.

Thus, Spurs have been very active in the transfer market as they attempt to beef up a squad that has had to deal with so many injuries.

They have already signed Kevin Danso today and have had a bid for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi rejected after resurrecting talks for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.

And now according to reports from The Standard, they have agreed a deal to sign young Liverpool defender Luca Furnell-Gill.

Furnell-Gill is an 18-year-old central defender who has been on Liverpool’s books since joining the club from Preston North End at under 15 level.

Born in the village of Steeton, the youngster made his Liverpool under 18s debut as an under 16 player in 2022-23 and was then a first-year scholar with the squad during 2023-24.

Originally brought to Liverpool as a winger, Luca Furnell-Gill had transitioned into the role of a defender with in Merseyside.

Alas, it seems that the youngsters footballing journey will now continue in London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The news is part of a double transfer raid on some of their rivals’ academy stars as Spurs are also bringing in fellow 18-year-old Daniel Batty from Manchester City.

Despite the double swoop, it is not believed that either player will be heading into the Tottenham Hotspur first team this season.

Instead, they are seen as signing for the academy and to develop in North London.

There are no further details on why Luca Furnell-Gill is leaving Liverpool for Tottenham Hotspur at this stage.

Whatever the case may be, LFC fans will be looking on to see how the youngster develops away from the club in the coming months and years.
