Premier League spending record broken

The Eberechi Eze deal from Crystal Palace to Arsenal means Premier League clubs have now broken the record for the most spent on transfers in a single window.

The previous record was the summer of 2023 with the record at £2.4634bn.

However, the £67.5m Eze deal means all 20 Premier League clubs have now spent £2,511,693,000 between them – which is an all-time record.

And with plenty of transfer sagas still up in the air – including Alexander Isak, Yoane Wissa, Nicolas Jackson and  Gianluigi Donnarumma – there could be more spending to come!

Borussia Dortmund have reached a full agreement with Chelsea over the signings of Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino.

The deal for Chukwuemeka is permanent and worth around £21.7m (€25m), while Anselmino is set to join the German club on a straight loan.

Emery: We have to perform with the players we have

Unai Emery suggests Aston Villa may have to prepare to continue with their current defensive options as the transfer window draws to a close.

Villa were beaten 1-0 at Brentford on Saturday, with Ezri Konsa suspended after picking up a red card in their opening draw vs Newcastle.

Emery’s side have been linked to signing a defender to bolster options at the back.

However, asked about Konsa’s absence affecting the team, Emery said:

“We have to be ready to play with the centre-backs we have.

“We have to perform with the players we have. I think it’s enough players to get enough performances for this season.

“But this week is the last week for the transfer window and of course, we have some circumstances that are not helping us.”

‘Arsenal agree Irish record deal for Shamrock teen Ozhianvuna’

Arsenal have agreed an Irish record deal for Shamrock Rovers teenage midfielder Victor Ozhianvuna, according to The Athletic.

It is claimed the fee for the 16-year-old will surpass Tottenham’s £1.6m deal to sign Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic earlier this year.

Ozhianvuna has reportedly already completed his medical and will sign a pre-contract with Arsenal, meaning he will join when he turns 18 in January 2027.

It is also claimed that Arsenal technical director James Ellis and academy manager Per Mertesacker led Arsenal’s pursuit of the right-footed midfielder.

‘Mourinho emerges as candidate to replace Nuno’

Jose Mourinho has emerged as a shock candidate to take over the Nottingham Forest job should the club part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo, according to The Sun.

Nuno was suggestive of a fractious relationship with his owner, Evangelous Marinakis, when speaking to the media on Friday in response to rumours that his future could be in doubt.

The Forest boss didn’t shut down said rumours suggesting that his relationship with Marinakis had changed this summer.

Sky Sports News reported exclusively following the press conference that Marinakis was baffled by Nuno’s comments and that there was no intention of sacking the manager who had secured their long-awaited return to European football.

However, The Sun are reporting that Forest have lined three-time Premier League champion, should Nuno step away.

Mourinho is currently in charge of Turkish side Fenerbahce.

‘Donnarumma agrees personal terms with Man City as club-to-club talks begin’

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with Manchester City, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It is claimed talks between the two clubs over a deal for the Italy international are under way.

PSG are reportedly willing to allow Donnarumma to leave for a fee under the £43.3m (€50m) initially requested.

But it is claimed that any deal for the 26-year-old is dependent on Man City goalkeeper Ederson’s exit this summer, with Turkish side Galatasaray still keen on the Brazil international.

‘Saudi back in for in for Fernandes’

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is being targeted by Al Ittihad in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

Fernandes was subject to interest from interest from Al Hilal earlier in the window, however, turned down the move, keen on staying at what he called “the highest level”.

However, it is now being reported that Al Ittihad are the latest Saudi side to show interest, with it being suggested that United will leave the 30-year-old to make his own decision again.

According to the report, talks with Fernandes’ camp have already taken place and Al Ittihad are willing to pay the midfielder £33m per year.

Fernandes, who scored 19 goals and registered 19 assists last season in a struggling United team, has two years remaining on his deal at Old Trafford with the option of a further year.

‘Spurs prepared to pay over £60.7m for Man City winger Savinho’

Tottenham are prepared to pay over £60.7m (€70m) for Manchester City winger Savinho, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It is claimed Spurs are trying to get a deal done for the 21-year-old before the window closes at 7pm on September 1.

The Brazil international is reportedly keen on the move to Thomas Frank’s side and it all depends on Man City.

Savinho was not in yesterday’s squad for City’s 2-0 home defeat to Spurs due to injury.
