Liverpool injury update: Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez latest news and return dates
Reds have time to recover players ahead of Champions League showdown
Blow: Conor Bradley is injured for Liverpool
Liverpool are on course for one of the most memorable seasons in their recent history.
The Reds opened up a 13-point gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table on Wednesday after Liverpool beat Newcastle 2-0 at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side are edging closer to winning the title and could even lift a trophy sooner should they beat the Magpies in next month’s Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
They now have a rare week off before traveling to Paris Saint-Germain for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final, a period in which Slot will perhaps recover some more of his players.
If they are going to keep battling across a number of fronts, that feels particularly important.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Liverpool injuries…
Conor Bradley
While Trent Alexander-Arnold is obviously Liverpool’s first-choice right-back, Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley has been a fine deputy over the past year or so.
However, it seems the 21-year-old is facing a spell out of action. Indeed, Bradley came off injured during the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa earlier this month and subsequently missed the win over Newcastle.
Speaking before the win over the Magpies, Slot confirmed Bradley was facing a “few weeks” on the sidelines with a muscle injury.
Joe Gomez
Perhaps the only area in which Liverpool are slightly lacking right now is in central defence. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are a formidable partnership but the options behind them are not quite as strong.Jarell Quansah has shown promise but remains some way behind, while Joe Gomez has again suffered with injury – meaning Wataru Endo has often been deployed in defence.
Gomez came off during Liverpool’s shock FA Cup defeat to Plymouth, having only just returned from a hamstring injury.
The England international suffered a similar issue there and Slot has confirmed Gomez will miss an extended period of time.
“Joe will take quite some time,” said Slot earlier this month. “He is going to be out for a number of weeks because of a hamstring injury
It’s a big blow for Joe and for us. He tries everything to be with the team. He works really hard to come back and then first game when he came back, after two or three minutes we saw him making a sprint and now he is out for weeks again.
“That’s always very hard for a player in every part of the season, let alone in the part of the season that everybody is looking forward to. He will a miss large part of the end of the season but we expect him to be back in the end phase of the season. He might [need surgery] but that is something we still have to assess.”
