Staggering Cost of Mohamed Salah’s Watch Worn During Liverpool Contract Extension

The big news coming out of the Premier League this week is that Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has agreed to sign a new contract with the Reds. However, his Richard Mille watch worn as he signed on the dotted line has caught the eye.

The 32-year-old, who has been with the English giants since 2017, scoring 243 goals and providing 109 assists in 393 appearances, looked as though he could leave in the summer. With Trent Alexander-Arnold already on his way out, seemingly set to join Real Madrid, this would have been a huge blow for the Anfield outfit.

With questions marks also over the future of club captain Virgil van Dijk, it will come as a huge relief to the fanbase that one of the three has finally committed his future to Liverpool.

GIVEMESPORT understands that Salah has not taken a pay cut on his old deal, believed to be worth over £350,000 per week. What’s more, he can make additional money based on bonuses and performance-related criteria, including a significant payout if he reaches 20 goals in a season. Overall, his potential salary will still be around £20m per season.

With that in mind, it will come as no surprise to learn he’s got enough money to splash the cash on some nice accessories. Even so, GQ have revealed what watch he was wearing during the contract announcement, and it’s worth a staggering amount.

Salah supposedly donned a blue ceramic Richard Mille RM 17-02 Tourbillon Titanium to celebrate, with the timepiece coming from a luxury Swiss watch company founded in 2001. Per the Daily Mail, it can be found on sale for $949,999 (£725,000).

GQ explained of the watch:

“For a start, it’s an openworked tourbillon, a type of mechanism used by high-end watch makers to counteract any inaccuracies caused by gravity. It uses loads of fancy escapements to do this, and in the case of Salah’s RM17-02, this horological madness is visible through a skeletonised design.”

They added: “Openworked complexity is right up Richard Mille’s street. But unlike a lot of other watches in its line-up, this one uses a manual wind movement, packing in roughly 70 hours of power reserve. It’s effective, and crazy accurate kind of like Salah on the pitch. The RM17-02 pairs a mean-looking ceramic and rose gold case with a matching blue rubber strap. And at 48.2 x 40.1 mm in size, it’s pretty hard to miss.”

They also noted that the Egyptian obviously has an eye for the lavish and has a specific taste for skeletonised, ceramic grails, as he was spotted last month wearing the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar Openworked.

The value and look of the watch has certainly caused a stir online. One fan wrote: “Looks like a kid’s plastic watch but costs almost a million.” Another added: “Obviously, money doesn’t buy taste, that watch is hideous.” While a third concluded: “Not a hater but it looks hideous.”
