What’s Happened to Liverpool’s Jayden Danns Since He Joined Sunderland on Loan.

Predicted to be one of Liverpool’s world-beating stars of the future, Jayden Danns was loaned out to Sunderland in February 2025 as a means of getting senior minutes under his belt – but things haven’t exactly gone to plan for the centre-forward.
As of April 2025, the 2006-born talent has plundered a total of three goals in nine senior appearances for the Premier League leaders and even featured in their League Cup final victory over Chelsea when he replaced Cody Gakpo in the 87th minute.
At just 19 years of age, Arne Slot and his entourage were under the impression that sending him out on loan to Sunderland, who fought off competition from Hull City and Blackburn Rovers to sign the sought-after youngster per The Athletic, would benefit all parties.
Jayden Danns’ Tumultuous Sunderland Loan
The teenager has been ruled out of the rest of the 24/25 campaign
Moving to the second-tier side was perfect for Danns: it was an opportunity to play for a decent side amid their push for promotion. For Sunderland, they had one of the highest-rated talents in Liverpool’s academy in their ranks until the summer transfer window.
But, yet, he has failed to make an appearance for the Championship outfit after a back injury was identified during his loan move medical tests. Irrespective of his issue, Sunderland decided to snare his signature in the winter – and they’ve certainly paid the price.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Danns is the youngest player in Liverpool’s history to start in a Champions League game – against PSV Eindhoven in January.
The youngster – widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s best academy prospects – racked up 27 goals for the Merseysiders’ youth teams in 2022/23 and put pen to paper on a long-term contract in March 2024 as a reward for his exploits.
However, despite Sunderland getting a Deadline Day deal across the line in February, he remained on Merseyside to undergo recovery and Liverpool are now hoping that he will be fit for their upcoming pre-season schedule, which will take place in Asia.

In a push for promotion to England’s top division this term, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has revealed that Danns, who made his Reds debut in a Premier League encounter with Luton Town last season, will not feature for the Black Cats.
“He won’t play with us this season. It is definitive.”
Luckily for the Premier League promotion hopefuls, ChronicleLive reported back in February that the Wearsiders were not paying a penny of his wage bill given that he had returned to Liverpool’s training ground, AXA, for the first part of his rehabilitation.
As alluded to, Sunderland managed to fend off a number of would-be buyers to secure the teenager’s hotly contested services. Le Bris’ side are fourth in the table and 13 points ahead of fifth-placed Bristol City with five games remaining.
