Andrea Berta could be a busy man at Arsenal this summer

Arsenal can officially complete their first signing of the summer transfer window when it opens on June 1.

The Premier League transfer window will open early between Sunday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 10 due to an exceptional registration period for the expanded Club World Cup. All clubs in England’s top division can do business in this period, not just Chelsea and Manchester City who are participating in the Club World Cup.

The transfer window will then open again on Monday, June 16 before it closes on Monday, September 1. So, with the first transfer window opening in exactly one month’s time, the Gunners may use the opportunity to get some business done early.

Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta are keen to strengthen a number of areas in the squad in the summer, football.london understands. Berta, alongside managing director Richard Garlick, executive vice chairman Tim Lewis and co-chairman Josh Kroenke, faces the challenge of improving the Arsenal starting XI as well as adding some much needed depth.

Speaking to Arsenal.com following his appointment, Berta said: “I am thrilled to be joining Arsenal in what is a hugely exciting period for the club. I have watched with great interest the way Arsenal has evolved in recent years and I have admired the hard work that has gone in to re-establishing the club as a major force in European football with a passionate following around the world.

“The club has great values and a rich history, and I am looking forward to playing my part in shaping a successful future with a great team. I cannot wait to get started in my new role and I am really looking forward to experiencing my first game at Emirates Stadium together with our supporters.”
