When Arsenal can announce Martin Zubimendi and Kepa transfers amid Rodrygo and Benjamin Sesko wait
The Gunners have been quiet so far in the summer transfer window
Martin Zubimendi could star at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield next season
Arsenal fans may face a bit of a longer wait to see new signings arrive through the door at the Emirates Stadium.
While the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have already made their first moves in the summer transfer window, the Gunners have been very quiet.
The Gunners are expected to complete the signings of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, with both transfer all-but completed.
So why have the deals not been announced?
It may well be that the players have gone on holiday, with Zubimendi in particular likely to have gone on a three-week break – as per FIFA guidelines – after taking part in the Nations League Final with Spain.
Zubimendi is due to return from that three-week holiday at the beginning of July. The same could be said for Arrizabalaga, although he was not involved in international duty and could return before then.
That start of July date is important for another reason, however.
Club contracts run from the beginning of July to the end of June, with Premier League clubs typically releasing their annual financial accounts in the summer, with a deadline for submitting accounts to Companies House by the end of June.
That means a new financial year begins for them in July and that is key when it comes to Financial Fair Play and Profit & Sustainability Rules.
Martin Zubimendi Arsenal transfer ‘delay’ explained as summer window deadline passes
For Zubimendi in particular it is understood that it could be beneficial for both clubs, particularly La Real, for the transfer to happen in July for the accounts.
From an Arsenal side, the Profit and Sustainability of the club is healthy already, although it is UEFA Financial Fair Play rules that the club are more stringently restricted by overall. football.london understands that Arsenal are always keen to comply comfortably within the restrictions laid out, despite some hoping they might work up to the limits instead.
Pre-season training does not start until July 7, with the Gunners going out on tour to Asia on July 19, so there is no rush – yet – to get signings done. When July comes around, however, the supporters will start to get antsy.
