Liverpool are playing dangerous Ibrahima Konate game – the whispers are

Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate could join Trent Alexander-Arnold in signing for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Alexander-Arnold has confirmed he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires on 30 June after agreeing terms with the La Liga giants.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported on 7 May Real Madrid could move to sign Konate, 25, once his deal at Anfield expires in June 2026.

Liverpool signed the France international for £36million from RB Leipzig in 2021.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants are playing a “very dangerous” game letting key players run their contracts down into the final year.

Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah recently agreed new deals at Anfield after their contracts were due to expire in June.

Liverpool could agree Ibrahima Konate deal soon

Borson insisted Liverpool are likely to try and nail Konate down to a new contract soon following the interest from Real Madrid.

He told Football Insider: “I think it’s a very dangerous game to play to allow major players to go into the last year of their contract if they’re of an age where you definitely want to sign them up for three or four years more.

“Konate is only 26 at the end of May, but he’s coming into his prime, particularly for a central defender. They are not going to want to lose him on a free.

“They will be fully aware that Real Madrid are getting very accomplished now at taking these players on free transfers.

“They have done it for a long time and used the benefit and the scale of the club as a recruitment tool that pretty much nobody else in world football can compete with. I do think there is some risk if they’re interested in the player.

“A lot of these rumours that have started have turned out to be true when they’ve gone after these players. The Alexander-Arnold story was out there last year that they were looking to make him a free transfer.

“It was true, so I think Liverpool will be pretty cautious and will try to nail the player down much earlier than they did with Salah and Van Dijk.”

Bryan Mbeumo race takes new twist after Liverpool update

Football Insider revealed on 6 May Liverpool have cooled their interest in Bryan Mbeumo ahead of the summer transfer window.

With Salah committed for two more years, it is believed the Merseysiders’ interest in the Brentford star is waning.

Liverpool had lined up a move for the £60million-rated forward, who is attracting interest across the Premier League.
